The Sewer Collection Department maintains over 100 miles of sewer lines throughout the city. The city has approximately 3750 customers connected to the sewer system. The Wastewater comes from everyday activities such as flushing the toilet, taking a shower, using a washing machine, washing dishes, etc. Wastewater is released from residential, commercial and Industrial sites. The wastewater is then transported through the sewer collection lines to our City of Portland's Wastewater Treatment Plant to be treated. The crew performs various responsibilities such as:
- Making sewer taps
- Maintenance on over a hundred sewer lift stations
- Rod lines to clear blockages
- Add chemicals
- Check and clean up overflows
- Smoke test lines
- Verify if customer is connected to our city system
