Welcome! We're so glad you're here to celebrate our 68th annual Middle Tennessee Strawberry Festival!
Portland's history is rich in strawberries. Agriculture was our mainstay in years past, with strawberries as our main crop for many years. Although that's no longer true, we still celebrate our heritage and we still have some strawberries.
This year we are also celebrating our Sesquicentennial; 150 years since the first Louisville & Nashville train stopped at Richland Station depot on October 31, 1859. Richland Station was re-named Portland in 1888, and then incorporated as a city in 1905. A Sesquicentennial Celebration is planned for October 3, 2009 and we'd love to have you come back to be with us for some old fashioned food, a quilt show, historical artifacts display, historic building tours, a cemetery tour, and many other festivities.
Hometown Festivals such as ours are great fun and a great way to meet new people and experience new places. We certainly hope the Strawberry Festival makes you want to come back to Portland for more in October.
